Claire and Julian are artists with a variety of experience from working at outdoor events and festivals. They have been employed by Walk the Plank for a number of years to make large Carnival pieces, and to run master classes in large or wheeled structures.
They enjoy creating art for outdoor and public spaces as it engages a great range of people, allows them to work on large scale and brings the extraordinary into the everyday.
Syed the Giant Snake Puppet was commissioned for Manchester Mega Mela and they have subsequently taken it to Glastonbury Festival, Shambala Festival and Green Man Festival.
The Arts Council commissioned the Giant Cobra Snake Puppet and Giant Charmer Puppet in 2013. We also took both puppets back to the Mega Mela in 2014 and 2015.
Here is a short film of the Snake and Charmer Puppets at the festival in 2014.
Syed the Giant Snake Puppet was a walkabout act for the Theatre and Circus area of Glastonbury Festival in 2015. We performed twice a day and even ended up (briefly) appearing on the ‘One Show’!
Here is a short film of Syed the Giant Snake Puppet at Glastonbury Festival.
At Shambala Festival Syed the Giant Snake Puppet led their Sunday parade in 2015. Prior to the parade we also did a puppet workshop, where festival-goers got the chance to puppeteer the Snake. Here is a short film of Syed the Giant Snake Puppet at Shambala Festival.
At Green Man Festival Syed the Giant Snake Puppet was part of the Little Folk Sunday parade. We were really excited about the overwhelmingly good response Syed got in the kids field there, partly due to the spitter which squirted water at the children. They loved it!
